NewNEW RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FIRE SAFETY DIRECTORS AS OF 10/1/10


All FSD renewals have new requirements. In order to renew, current holders must attend an accredited course in Building Operation, Maintenance and Recordkeeping.

Pursuant to § 113-02 Fire Safety Director Certificates of Fitness, at the time of renewal of such certificate during the period from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2014, successful completion of a continuing education course that addresses issues of building operation, maintenance and recordkeeping must be completed.

A Certificate of Completion must be submitted along with all materials and checks in order to renew a FSD Certificate of Fitness.

  • Can I take the Continuing Ed. course ahead of time.

Answer: Yes. You can take the course anytime prior to your C of F expiring. For example: your C of F expires in 2013; you take our course in 2010; your in compliance. You're covered. When you go to renew your C of F in 2013, just produce the Certificate of Completion we gave you.

  • Do I have to attend this course every time I renew my C of F.

Answer: No. You're only required to attend this course once.

  • Is there a CBT.

Answer: No. The last thing we do at the end of our course is administer an official FDNY exam, 50 questions, 70%  passing grade. You take the exam, we score the exam, we issue a Certificate of Completion.

  • What happens if I fail the exam you give at the end of the course.

Answer: You can take a 2nd exam with us within 30 days.

  • Does the Certificate we give you expire.

Answer: No. The Certificate of Completion we issue for successfully completing the Continuing Ed. course has no expiration date; only an issuance date.

  • I have an F-25 C of F. Do I have to attend the course.

Answer: Yes. All current holders of an F-58 or F-25 C of F must attend the course.         Home
