August 2011:

The New York City Fire Department has revised the Fire Safety Director On Site Examination for Hotels and Office Buildings to reflect the new changes to the Fire Code.

October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2014: When an FSD or Deputy FSD renew their Certificate of Fitness, they must produce written proof that they attended a new FSD Continuing Education training course called Building Operation, Maintenance and Recordkeeping Training Course. Numerous Fire Code and Building Code topics will be covered. Fire Alarm Systems, Sprinklers, Emergency Power Systems, Portable Fire Extinguishers, Commercial Cooking Systems, Smoke Control Systems, Refrigerating Systems, and Hot Work are among the major topics covered.

Effective July 1, 2010. Computerized training, without live instruction, authorized for EAP and Fire Safety Plan training and drills (Instructional Drills). Must be interactive and include an evaluation of the staff member's understanding of the training materials. Can use this method for up to half of the required training sessions per year.
